Deadline has come and gone (though some extensions have been granted). We have some new PDPHs and some lingering IPHs. 

These will be due June 19th, 21:59 UTC, 24 hours before works are scheduled to be revealed--though please don't hesitate to ask for an extended deadline. 

Pinch hits must meet the same requirements as assignments: complete stories of at least 1,000 words, focusing on the unrequited feelings specified in one of the recipient's ship + freeform tag combinations. old royal favorite for new royal favorite

Early modern monarchs had this thing where they were really intensely close with one specific courtier. Usually a man, but not always. Usually someone who was influential in their upbringing. In some cases we know that they were lovers, in other cases we don’t have any reason to suspect that, and many are in-between.
I’d like a story about any situation where an older royal favorite (who gained influence when the king was still a child or teen) loses the royal favor because a new younger, hotter person attracts the royal attention. But the older favorite can’t bring themself to be mad at the younger one. They too fall for the young person’s charms. Meanwhile, the younger one is only interested in the monarch and his power.

I admit I’m imagining Juan Pacheco for Beltran de la Cueva (under king Henry IV of Castile), but please use any combo that matches the prompt. Late medieval / early modern aesthetics preferred but not required. Any combination of genders is OK, but I’d like old and new favorite to be the same gender or at least not M/F.

Note on "Creator's choice of fandom"

I’m fine with filling these for characters from any fandom, either because they fit the prompt, or as an AU. I'm also fine with original fiction. But: please don’t use child or high-school characters, furry/anthro/animal characters, or RPF of any living people. If you’re writing for a fandom I have not requested, please assume I’m not familiar with the canon material and write the story so that it makes sense on its own. Thank you!

Maybe a bit of muddled trauma binding and/or conditioning for the Hawks for the HPSC President and Dabi for Endeavour,, I like those relationships incredibly fucked up.
Then there's Shigaraki's admiration for Eraserhead that Aizawa doesn't even know about. Maybe he will? How would he respond to the number one villain having feelings for him? Or even before he gets so notorious, just the villain who attacked his class? Or he won't and it's just Shigaraki pining from a distance.
Hawks' hero worship of Endeavour,, you can take it in so many ways. He is such an Endeavour apologist (and I wish I could shake him and tell him no) and he's been looking up to him since he was young, and maybe that admiration turned into attraction as he grew older. How does he deal with that? Does he tell Endeavour? Does he try to get close to him, does he try to orchestrate moments for them to team up? How does he feel about teaming up when they eventually do? Maybe he's just pining from a distance. How does he feel being a hero next to Endeavour, being in the top 10 with him? Does he think Endeavour is better than him and he's not as worthy? How would Endeavour react to the it?
Hawks for Twice,, he likes Twice as a person, so what if he's developed feelings for him in the process too? How does he feel about being attracted to the villain he's manipulating, the villain he's supposed to kill? Does it impede his work? Does it make him doubt what he's doing for the Commission? What would Twice think about it, especially after finding out Hawks is a double agent? It's a recipe for great (inner) conflict and I love me some conflicted Hawks
Hawks for Dabi is in a similar vein, because Dabi is also a villain he's supposed to take down, a villain he's using to get closer to Shigaraki. What happens when that gets muddled with attraction? What does Dabi think, knowing he's a traitor from the start? Does he try to manipulate Hawks with it? How does Hawks deal with it? Does he consider betraying the Commission over it because he's so taken by Dabi?
Dabi for Hawks,, Knowing he's a traitor, and still developing feelings, still being attracted to him despite that, how does that make him feel? Does it make it harder to hold onto that distrust? How does it influence the way he treats Hawks, the way he does (not) give him access to the rest of the League? Does the League find out, and if they do, what do they think about it? Especially Toga would have opinions probably, maybe try to make him convert Hawks to villainy for real? I can just imagine Dabi being grumpy and bitchy as fuck about the whole feelings situation, which would be real fun to see.
Dabi for Shigaraki, how does Dabi deal with being attracted to someone? I like to think he hadn't expected it, and with how much he tries not to get attached to anyone, how does he deal with this? Does he try to stop himself from feeling it, given he's convinced he can't feel anything anymore? Is he oblivious to it until Shigaraki says something about how annoying he is and is he mortified? What would Shigaraki think? How does it affect Dabi's involvement with the League?

Lang is so downbad for Yuno,, and he makes no secret of it and I love that, the way he aggressively shows he cares, the way he tried to get Yuno to say "I love you" back so many times before giving up, the way he never hesitates to compliment Yuno vs. how cold and irritable he is towards everyone else. And the way Yuno can't really deal with it, can't reciprocate the affection at all. It's a lovely dynamic. Add Ray or Tony to it who also love Yuno so much but are a little less forceful about it,, good stuff. I'm a big fan of aroace characters so aroace Yuno,, sign me the hell up. And/or traumatised Yuno, he has admitted to having trauma regarding love (even if it's questionable how many of the things he's said about himself are true). Good stuff.
In terms of Yuno for X, there was a time where Yuno impersonated X and idolised him and let him get away with anything even if it got Yuno hurt,, and X wasn't exactly considerate back. So I'm envisioning this admiration which is maybe also attraction that Yuno doesn't really recognise as such, which has him pining without meaning to, and X oblivious and uncaring to it all as Yuno used to be such an X apologist,, there's a lot of fun to be had with that.

Winter for Amamiya,, I think the way Winter cares so much for Amamiya to the point they saved her life and told her not to die in their absence,, there could be something there,, even if Amamiya's attention is taken up by Ron (Amamiya for Ron is also good unrequited attraction),, it would be fun to delve into deeper!
Alice's feelings for Ron,, I don't know what's going on there, but it doesn't seem exactly healthy with her basement full of Ron pictures, the way she's been obsessed with him her whole life pretty much? What would Ron think if he found out about that? How does she deal with her own feelings? Why did she decide to lie about it to her siblings?

I love this anime and how adamant Anzu is on Not being in a romantic relationship. I love aroace characters, and aroace Anzu is so good. That's it that's the prompt really. Maybe the boys bond over their unrequited attraction. Maybe one of them has the guts to discuss it with Anzu and they have a heartfelt conversation about it because Anzu likes him, but not like that. Maybe they try to figure it out together?

Dazai basically confesses to Chuuya within like a day of knowing him (in the Fifteen light novel),, and Chuuya tells him "ew no" and boy is that good material for angsting. They work so well together in the end, but how does Dazai feel about such a partnership if he's harbouring unrequited feelings? Is some of his supposed hate and disdain he expresses towards Chuuya a way for him to deal with the hurt of those feelings perhaps? What if someone from the ADA like Ranpo notices and calls him out on it? How would he react to that?
Dazai for Oda,, I like Oda as a kind of mentor figure to Dazai, a safe place he can go to and just be himself (to the degree he even can let himself be himself and show himself), and what if Dazai finds himself drawn to Oda more and more because of how much he likes being around him, how much he likes himself around him, how good Oda is at listening to him and gently reminding him nothing is as horribly dramatic as Dazai likes to make it sound? Does Dazai even realise his attraction is attraction? I love a Dazai who's bad at feelings. Maybe it remains unknown and unspoken forever. Maybe he realises at some point, maybe when Oda's already dead? How would he feel about that?
Atsushi for Dazai is a similar thing as Dazai for Oda for me. A safe place that becomes the place he just wants to be all the time, the person he wants to listen to all the time because Dazai always knows what to do, always has the right thing to say. But maybe he does realise it, or someone realises it for him, and Dazai finds out? How would Dazai deal with someone having feelings for him? Does he even believe that's possible?
Dazai for Ranpo,, This guy who knows so much about him, who sees through him like no one else because he is just that perceptive. What if that turns into attraction? Does he try to hide that and fail? Does he not realise it and have Ranpo be the one to call it out and confront him with it? Would he be mortified? Would he try to deny it? Or maybe it's the one thing Ranpo misses about him and he's relieved but also not because now he has to figure out whether he wants to tell him at all?
Poe for Ranpo,, He is so obsessed with him. What if Ranpo isn't as obsessed back? What if Ranpo does like Poe, but merely as a friend? Aroace Ranpo my beloved,, How does Ranpo feel about Poe being attracted to him like that? Is he conflicted about it? Is Poe sad about the rejection, and does Ranpo feel sad for him? What were those years Poe was preparing for their reunion like?
Nikolai for Fyodor,, the one guy who understands him. Fyodor is so important to him, changed his world, but is he any of that in return to Fyodor? What if he's not? What if it's one-sided and he's merely another pawn to Fyodor? Does he realise it and let himself be used anyway? Does he care? Does he want to care?

I want John to be sad. But in a repressed, quiet, resigned way. I want him lonely and self-denying and not allowed (or not allowing himself) to want, and maybe secretly alienated and guilty. I want this underlying his life even while joining the expedition improves things for him in a friends, colleagues, and self-worth kind of way--so that he's no longer alone in reassignment exile waiting out his time, but there's still something fundamentally alone about him, even while he's at the center of all these connections he's learning he's good at making again.
I'd like that desolate isolation to find a locus in his feelings about his friend Rodney McKay. I don't care what kind of attraction John has for him, I just want him to deny himself or believe that he can't have it, and I'd love him to try to keep it to himself, for his own sake, for Rodney's, because of the rules, even for the greater good (slip-ups, obviousness, other people seeing totally allowed). He can be anything from messed up about it to more or less sanguine, though I'd prefer that he's practiced at this kind of thing, whether he's any good at dealing with it on the inside.
Maybe it's just a day in the life (calm or adventurous; Pegasus or Earthside), maybe one of them is in danger, maybe they're separated, maybe they're stuck together, maybe some outside force throws them together in a way that makes it really hard for John or even brings it all out excruciatingly.
John trying an arrangement with someone else during this is fine. If it's m/m or in his chain of command, I'd prefer it to be someone not from Earth--or for him to be also messed up about that. (Bonus opt-in: John full of unrequited feelings for Teyla & Ronon too and trying to let them all live their lives, while he stands alone...) As for Rodney? He could be alone or in a canon or non-canon ship (normal canon-wise, I like Katie Brown, but for this purpose, any goes). He could also be oblivious or aware of John's feelings at any point; I've requested any of the unrequitedness combinations, so it's also ok if either's only interested in sex or romance but not both--though even in any of those versions, I'd like John's concerns about it being a bad idea both publicly and privately to be an issue, even if he goes along with it because he wants Rodney so much. Basically, I'm leaving it open so that you can make it as excruciating (for John, but anyone can get unhappiness too) as possible!

Nardole is so stalwart and so long-sufferingly loyal, and while he's perfectly capable of being stern and calling the Doctor to task and being the Doctor's keeper (the keeper's keeper), he puts up with it all for a long, long time and supports him and acts tenderly towards him when the moment calls for it. I love that Nardole acts subordinate and the Doctor all bossy (which seems to be both natural to them and a specific choice) but keeps him in line--and even with all the majordomo/batman trappings, or maybe because of them, they're closer to equal than most of the Doctor's relationships--and he's funny and charming and potters about and drops cogs or servos or whatever it is sometimes and is a badass and has his own foibles that he's put aside for this, and they both acknowledge that he is stronger for the long-haul and how much the Doctor, for all his brilliance, needs him.
I love the idea of Nardole quietly nursing stronger feelings for the Doctor, which the Doctor might or might not know about (I could easily see the Doctor not getting it, but I could equally see him ignoring it or being surprisingly discreetly kind about it once he did figure it out or if Nardole let on), but which he simply cannot return. I just think it would be fascinating if, because of Yana's chameleon-arched state, there's a misfire between these two so that one of them has feelings for the other, but the other doesn't reciprocate.
It's lovely and heartbreaking to see Ten and Yana working together in Utopia before Ten figures it out, and I'd like to have more of that beauty and heartbreak, with more time and space for a messed up expansion of it. (Maybe with a canon divergence? Or some kind of Time Lord prolongated time-consciousness, or stability-breaking timey-wimey shenanigan? Or Ten or the Master thinking about it after it's all over, and Yana doesn't even exist anymore?)
Does Ten have feelings for Yana, but Yana only has collegial admiration and respect for him? Does Ten have feelings for Yana, but Yana finds him physically or psychologically overwhelming? If it's the other way around, does Yana have feelings for Ten, but Ten only sees him as another amazing, brilliant human; or if he's figured out that Yana is the Master, what if in spite of that and in spite of the fact that Ten would reciprocate for the Master, he finds he just...doesn't, not in that way, with Yana? In spite of how much he enjoys working with him? (What if Yana somehow figures it out but for whatever reason that fact doesn't lead to his immediately opening the fob watch and becoming the Master again?)
I'm very much interested in this resting on the fact that Yana is not the Master, and the twisted agony of the fact that it would be a less fraught and quite sweet relationship--they show so much genuine appreciation for and enjoyment of each other--except that these feelings just aren't going to be returned unless Yana is the Master, in which case he wouldn't be Yana, Yana would be dead, and so it all falls (or would fall) apart.

Ben's constantly charmed smiles in reaction to everything Assane does (even the things that exasperate him, though not the things he really disapproves of), his always going along with Ben's plans even while often protesting that they're bad ideas or that he's really concerned for Assane, his huge faith in Assane in spite of his knowing that sometimes his plans are bad ideas, the way his life seems to have been shaped by Assane's interests, the way he exists so comfortably in Assane's life...there are so many signs of Ben's love for Assane, and not just his love but the possibility of his long-standing infatuation.
And Assane seems to care for him very much as a friend, and depend on him, and accepts him full-heartedly into his life (and maybe takes his presence and help somewhat for granted), but it could so easily be an uneven relationship. After all, we see Assane's relationship with Claire (as complicated as that also is), and we see Assane's preoccupations and his larger-than-life personality take up so much of his being.
We know relatively little about Ben, and a lot of intriguing things happen with him in part 3, and I'd be equally interested in an exploration of the earlier years of his acquaintance with Assane, whether during their school days or in their 20s when we see them first establishing their adult lives; or in something set immediately before or during canon (especially between parts 2 and 3 or during part 3), or post-canon speculation.
I'm happy with however you'd like to depict Assane's other relationships, with Claire (requited and together; requited but not together; unrequited at the time of the fic's setting; less requited in some way than canon), or with Juliette. Also happy with whatever you'd like Claire and Ben's relationship to be. And Ben? Does he pursue (or attempt to pursue/experiment with) other relationships outside of the canonical characters, or is he pretty much fully occupied with the circle of acquaintances and interests that we see? Is he ok with his unrequited feelings or not, or does it shift over time? Also, Assane doesn't have to appear in-fic, if that works better for the story you want to tell.

I always love stories in which they're lonely and isolated and there's only so many of them around, but duty and the good of the working environment means that no one having feelings up and down the rank grades must express it. I could see this going either way with unrequited Paris for Janeway or Janeway for Paris, the rapport between them going "too far" for one of them, and oops, they've got to hide those feelings.
I think Tom, early on, having an infatuation for the woman who gives him a second chance to save himself from his own mistakes, and constantly expects the best of him, and devoting himself to being supportive and living up to his potential and what she sees in him, makes sense. And I love when it gets complicated with things like asking him to pretend to slide into bad habits again, or when he really does go against her orders.
I could see these feelings just being there, in the background, even canon-compliantly. Possibly strong at first, but then maybe they fade to a mild thing that doesn't interfere with his life? Or maybe it does, and he struggles with it even as he tries to live his life (whether canon-compliantly or divergently). Maybe he lets it slip and maybe it's clear they're real or he's able to play it off as a crush, or maybe he's able to hide it in charm and his real efforts to be a productive member of his community (and to be good for Janeway, specifically).
Janeway developing feelings and going no this is absolutely not allowed and struggling not to even let a glimpse of it become apparent (to anybody but especially to Tom) would be delightfully excruciating. She denies herself so much! Not being able to talk to anybody about this. Trying not to let it interfere, socially or in command situations. Watching Tom develop his life and genuinely happy for how well he does but also helplessly regretful, probably annoyed at herself for those little twinges. Getting angry at him when he disappoints her! Angry at herself for how much it matters!
Peril situations are great for these two, and having to make difficult decisions (for Janeway especially); doubting themselves, having trouble trusting themselves... If feelings do get revealed, it could be so awkward--would it be a shock/surprise or not?--yet in an unrequited situation I could see the one who doesn't return the feelings being so gentle and careful with the other, out of respect and genuine caring.

Basically, I'd like more of Lord Peter unshakably interested in Harriet Vane, and Harriet in a moment in her life in which there's just no way she can reciprocate. Canon resolves it, but feel free to diverge or just pretend you haven't gotten to that part yet or ever will.
I love Harriet's side of it: she's so real, so complicated, and it makes all the sense that given the situation, both in herself, having had this very bad relationship experience that defines so much of her life, and in the way Peter is mixed up in extricating her from its consequences and entangled in her thoughts and feelings about all of it, she has far too much to work through for herself to have any room for wanting another relationship, especially with Peter, who would kind of own her. I love seeing her grapple with that, and feel suffocated (her independence and her need for it), but gradually heal and work through it all. To me this reason for the unrequitedness is just as important as the attraction. I could easily see it having gone the other way, her growth and healing leading her to a place where she still did not reciprocate his feelings, especially the romantic ones, but without rancor. (Maybe they could even make a life like this.)
Meanwhile, I love Lord Peter suffering and the way he suffers. His stoicism, dignity, and carefully not showing/imposing his hurts too much--at least, after his initial presumption when they first meet. He's better about keeping it to himself when he gets physically whumped, and it's gorgeous whenever he slips or it's just too much and he has to reveal himself a bit, e.g. when he's got cracked ribs and takes Harriet to dinner anyway, and only admits it when he has to explain why he can't pick up her dropped bag for her. But I also love his emotional defenses that come down so often and are almost always down (though most people don't ever realize it; Harriet, of course, does, and Bunter presumably knows everything possible and not possible to know about him). For the unrequited feelings, I love the subsequent conversation, when he sees the hate mail she's been getting, in part because of him, and he asks why she didn't tell him, and she says she didn't want to hurt him, and he goes so far as to speak with italics: ‘Didn’t want to hurt me?’...because they both know his unrequited feelings have been hurting him for years by this point. (And they could both just...stop seeing each other, but they don't, and I think that could also be nuanced and fascinating.)
So, I just want to roll around in this whole situation, and their complicated selves and feelings. I'd be equally interested in fic set during when this is all happening in-canon or a canon-divergence in which it goes on for years more, whether in the same way or if they mature into some sort of equanimity and acceptance of it.

Caldwell: Giving Caldwell feelings of some sort for Sheppard just adds such a note to their canonical interactions--not only did he think he was going to and then didn't get Sheppard's job and become his CO, but he's inappropriately attracted to him! (At least this way they're not in one chain of command?) And he doesn't get to have that either, not even reciprocated but un-acted-on! And every time he clashes with him, has to rescue him, faces the disapprobation of Sheppard's allies over some decision he disagreed with, it's with the added frustration of his frustration and the awareness that he isn't not on Sheppard's side. Except, well, sometimes he is, because Sheppard makes questionable decisions, and also because sometimes he is just so aggravating.
Does he even like Sheppard? Maybe sometimes he's not so sure. If you want to have them go for some bad idea sex that makes this even worse for them both, go for it. They could also have known each other pre-canon in whatever way you like.
Ronon: Ronon's got this fascinating blend when it comes to John. He's loyal and supportive and so trusting and takes his orders, but at the same time, especially later in the show, he'll haul him around and push back and sometimes casually boss him, maybe because on Sateda, he was the guy. Maybe because his dominating John comes naturally to them. They connect on a physical level, and I could see that sliding easily into a very physical attraction, heightened by their brothers-in-arms thing.
What if Ronon felt it but John didn't, or only did sexually, and Ronon has to negotiate both figuring that out and how that could work in John's world, and in the unusual situation that is their life on Atlantis? Is there uncertainty over whether John can't for reasons or actually doesn't (and I could see John being...accommodating to Ronon's needs, which might complicate things)? How much does Ronon let on, does he keep it to himself, does he pursue John, how does it impact their team life? (Does everybody he meets when he goes home with John in Outcast think they're together anyway?)
I additionally opt in to Ronon for John for Rodney: it'd be interesting to see what an unrequited Ronon does if he sees John suffering from his unrequited thing for Rodney (see Request 1), and what John does, too, if Ronon does do something. Or make Ronon deal with John's thing with Todd, whatever that is.
